Polestar has partnered with Swiss company Bcomp to replace a large number of plastic panels in the car with natural material linen and replace seats with recycled plastic, further advancing towards sustainability. According to Polestar, flax plants can not only be used as food materials, but also as clothing fabrics. The reason for choosing linen material is that it is 50% lighter than traditional plastic materials and has higher strength. Polestar stated that this approach can reduce the use of plastic in the car by 80%.
In addition to using linen materials, Polestar will also plan to use a range of other materials for the interior of the car. For example, the surface of the seat is made of 3D woven material made of plastic bottles by Bcomp company; Car interior carpets made from discarded fishing nets; And use the waste generated during the cork manufacturing process to produce PVC internal components for vehicles.
Maximilian Missoni, the design director of Polestar, said in a statement, "We will not lose some more luxurious designs by using these materials." He pointed out that this is a very big challenge, and Polestar will gain new aesthetic value due to the adoption of new technologies.
Previously, Polestar's Polestar 2 had already undergone trial production in China and will officially begin mass production and delivery in the first half of this year. The official price of the first version is 418000 yuan.
